Cartagena de indias

In 1984 this Colombian colonial walled city was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site. It is easy to understand its enchantment while wandering in the streets of this old Spanish bastion, which offers a refreshing, surprising and daring multicolour palette to the eye, mixing together with a variety of textures.

Yet my images were not only taken within the walls of the touristy Cartagena. Many of my photographs come from less fortunate neighbourhoods, namely Caño del Oro, Boca Chica, Tesca Viejo, Fredonia, and Nelson Mandela.

With photos of 5-star hotel facades to images of poor household garden walls, this collection of images shows two extremes of the social fabric of Cartagena, yet one common sensitivity: embellishing one's world with colours.
